The Yankees are on fire right now. They have reeled off 7 in a row, and are now only 3 games out of the wild card. Ever since Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada rejoined the line up, the entire offense has picked things up and played much better, but another reason that can't be over looked has been solid starting pitching. The Yanks went on a stretch of 24 unanswered runs, and that doesn't happen unless your team is firing on all cylinders.
Thats the good news, now for the bad news. Earlier in the week Chien-Ming Wang hurt himself running the bases, something AL pitchers rarely do. I honestly don't think it had anything to do with the fact that he normally doesn't run the bases, seemed like a freak accident to me, but now he is out for at least 6 weeks with a protective boot on his foot. So now the Yanks will have to keep things close without their ace for most of the season.
Things could be worse though. The Yankees recently moved Joba Chamberlin into the starting rotation, which now looks like it will be a fantastic move. If they had to move Joba now, they would be another month without a solid starting pitcher.
A lot of people are talking trade, but I think it would be foolish to abandon the talent you were so reluctant to give up just this past off season. The Yankees need to let things play out a little to see where the chips will fall. If Joba becomes the ace everyone thinks he will and the rest of the staff can pitch to their potential, their offense should help them win enough games to be in the race come September. Then a healthy and rested Wang could rejoin the team for the stretch run.
At least thats how I hope it plays out, go Yanks!
